What is delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS)

Have you ever felt that muscle discomfort that appears a day or two after an intense workout? As the title suggests, this is delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS. It usually appears 24 to 72 hours after any form of exercise, whether it was a beginner's workout, a new workout, or a very intense workout. It can happen to anyone, and is a normal physiological cause; simply increase the load or change the type of workout.
